Eco-Hotel

Posh visitors to Punta del Este rarely venture north of Jose Ignacio, but with the recent surge of attention on northern enclaves like Rocha has brought adventure-lovers and even a new hotel to Laguna Garzon. Named a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1976, Laguna Garzon is now home to the area's first eco-hotel contained within a floating resort along the actual Laguna Garzon waterway.  From afar the floating resort looks like something you would see in Bora Bora or Tahiti, a lone series of interconnecting bridges that links the rooms and main lodge over the water. A spare design took into account sustainability and eco-material to create a main lodge with hip and minimalist interior and thatch covered terrace for late-evening drinks and dining.

The Room

A total of just 12 rooms are linked by elevated bridges over the still waterway home to local fisherman and adventure lovers. A removed location means once you’re in the hotel you should plan on staying in the area. Rooms are spare but stylish with minimalist interiors featuring a single bed layout with open terrace and small bathroom. Visitors to the resort find easy access to nearby Jose Igancio in addition to ecotourism activities such as bird watching as well as kite boarding, trekking, water sports and endless deserted beaches. Rates include daily breakfast as well as an array of guided activities made available to guests.
